Now Representing Shailee Mehta

We are so excited to announce representation of Goa-based painter Shailee Mehta

It was a joy to have her powerful paintings in the two-person show Lotus-Eaters last year and we are very much looking forward to her first solo exhibition with the gallery next summer.

Shailee Mehta's images stem from an autobiographical lens on the female embodiment of agency. The settings and characters in her narrative rich works have a theatrical quality to them. They subvert patriarchal tropes by enacting an otherness associated with the female experience, embracing intimate ideas such as that of desire, solitude, idleness and care. Using tools of storytelling, Mehta’s figures are imagined in radical settings, where nature, wildlife and bodies seem to merge. The spaces she creates in her work are inspired by memories, personal remembrance, nostalgia and our current collective experiences.

Shailee Mehta (b. 1998, India) lives and works in Goa. She completed her Foundation Diploma from UAL, London in 2015 and her BFA at The Slade School of Fine Art in 2020.
